Parking Day logoSeattle PARK(ing) Day is Friday, September 20th, but if you’d like to see a mini-park take over a parking spot for a day, apply today. Applications are being accepted through August 30th.

The goal of PARK(ing) Day is to “help create a walkable, livable and healthy city”. It’s the 5th year of Seattle PARKing Day, an event that has its roots in San Francisco. On September 20th, you can turn a parking spot or two into a temporary mini-park from 9am to 3pm. All you have to do is apply, it’s free.

PARK(ing) Day Park

If you’re interested in creating a park for Seattle PARK(ing) Day, just submit an application to the Seattle Department of Transportation. You can propose a park either in two mid-block parking spaces on an arterial street or in one mid-block space on a residential street. There are some basic guidelines to follow, and applicants need to submit a site plan and location description to ensure the park meets basic safety standards.

You don’t have to be a professional to draw up your plan, so if you’re artistically challenged, no worries. Scope out your location and submit all application materials via email by August 30th.
